I began to explore brioche knitting during 2021 and decided to incorporate this into some of my designs. The first of these is the Trireme Hat, available on Ravelry here. The pattern uses a combination of single and double brioche, as well as syncopated brioche, incorporating decreases and panels of garter stitch. The curved patterns of the brioche decrease sections brought to mind the shapes of ancient wooden longboats, so I named the hat after a type of boat which was used throughout the Mediterranean in ancient times.
In conjunction with the release of this pattern, I published a series of tutorials on brioche basics (refer to my Techniques page). The pattern itself also includes a full photo tutorial on the specific decreases used in the double brioche section.
