In 2018 I was delighted to be invited by Yarningham to design a pattern for their brochure. As the event takes place in Birmingham, I was keen to take inspiration from the industrial and artistic heritage of the city. The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is famous for its collection of works associated with the Pre-Raphaelites and the Arts and Crafts Movement, and its Industrial Gallery is home to a significant collection of ceramics by William De Morgan. My design for this cowl was inspired by these ceramics and feature one of his most popular flower motifs.
The cowl uses stranded colourwork in two colours, requiring 120-130m of each colour, and can be worked using DK or aran weight yarn. The two original samples were made using West Yorkshire Spinners Wensleydale Gems in Cobalt and Turquoise and also Rowan Kid Classic in Pumice and Canard.
It is available from my Ravelry store here and from Lovecrafts here.
